Target Group:
- Dhading district : females of disadvantaged and touchable castes - 75 female students and 5 female disadvantaged and touchable caste teachers
Rational
- Dhading is the poorest district in Nepal where the female literacy rate is one of the lowest in the country. Few roads exist. Schools are usually miles away. It is not uncommon for students to walk several miles to reach their school.
- In the Kumal Gaun, Sangkos-3, Dhading , Nepal , a school was built by a local Dhading resident using personal funds and funds donated from local Non Government Organizations and International Non Government Organizations. This school serves children of disadvantaged and touchable caste families . Both females and males attend this small school. Most of these children would never have had the opportunity to attend any school if this school had not been built for them.
Purpose:
- There are many social laws in Nepal that stipulate equality and rights for all. However these laws are not put into effect and society is still very much governed by the Hindu religious code and cultural traditions.
- Females in general do not have educational opportunities much less the disadvantaged and touchable caste females.
- Low caste persons have enormous difficulty integrating into any main stream of Nepali society. Lack of education only makes disadvantaged and touchable caste persons, especially female's living conditions even more deplorable.
Cost and what it covers: $145.00
The $145.00 covers the following expenses for one full year:
- Tuition
- Books and stationary
- School Uniform,( twice a year) Out door clothes, shoes and sandals
- Sanitary materials
- Supervision of scholarships – verification of students progress in Dhading and sending reports to donors
- Minor transportation costs to these rural areas for monitoring purposes.
disadvantaged and touchable Caste Candidates' Names and Personal Stories:
- A picture of the school built with the assistance of a Dhading resident's funds as well as local NGO's and INGO's funds begins this section of individual disadvantaged and touchable caste female student's pictures.
- These female students need annual scholarships as the school is now self-supporting.
- The INGO which had helped built the school has finished its commitment to this Dhading project.
