Target Group:
- 10 to 12 women from rural areas which includes women of untouchable caste, illiterate and from diverse ethnic backgrounds
Rational:
- Even though there are hospitals within some of the surrounding towns of Kathmandu , many women have no idea that they exist. Women lack health awareness, that is, of their bodies, of what hospitals can offer and the importance of a doctor and health workers to avoid unnecessary illness and even pre-mature death. Living a few kilometers from Kathmandu for many is almost living on a different planet.
Purpose:
- Educating women on women's health care issues helps reduce the mortality rate of women in the delivery of their child. This life skills training teaches women what to do/not do during their pregnancy and what to do to have a safe delivery, how to treat child illnesses, where to go for medical help, how to access medical services, how to read simple signs, how to sign their names, and what types of questions they need to ask the doctor for their children and family health care.
Area :
- The target area is rural towns around Kathmandu and rural areas outside Kathmandu Valley . It is quite unbelievable what a difference a few blocks makes in Nepal. The surrounding towns are stuck on Kathmandu but in many respects belong to a different world.
