Target Group:
- Bonded female laborers in Dang
Rational:
- Poor families “sell” their daughters as bonded laborers to nearby landlord's homes or to faraway cities for an average of $50.00 a year which is paid to the father of the family. This practice is driven by poverty. In most of these areas. Families are extremely poor and own little or no land. Without land a family has great difficulty surviving on a daily laborer's meager wage.
- These girls as young as seven have never been away from home and do not speak the language of the families they are “sold” to. Many families do not even know where their daughters that they have “sold” live and/or how to keep contact with them. Annually these contracts are renewed without the females being allowed to visit their families.
- Many of these poor families on the birth of a second or third daughter purposely do not become attached to the baby as they may have to “sell” their daughter as she becomes capable of doing house hold chores.
- No one checks on their physical or emotional welfare. The girls do not go to school. They slave from dawn till late at night in private homes or as dishwashers in tea houses. Most never return to the family home.
- Many are sexually abused and raped. As they are “bonded”, that is, paid for, the majority of owners care little for their welfare in every sense of the word.
Purpose:
- Each bonded female servant that is freed returns to her family and receives education for one year.
- Continued sponsorship ensures this freed female's education until she has completed Class 10 which is the end of high school in Nepal .
- Creating Possibilities also ensures that those bonded females who have experienced traumatic events are provided with counseling as well as education.
Area:
- Five districts of western Nepal, Dang, Banke, Bardia, Kailali and Kanchanpur. IWEN presently is focusing on Dang District.
Cost and what it covers:

- The $145.00 covers the following expenses for one full year:
- Female servant is bought back and returned to the family
- Tuition Fees
- School Uniform, shoes, socks
- Books and stationary
- School snack
- Supervision of scholarships – verification of students progress in Dang and sending reports to donors
- Minor transportation costs to these rural areas for monitoring purposes.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION CONCERNING THIS INDENTURED FEMALE'S PROJECT:
- ONLY $7.000.00 CAD would free 100
females and educate each female for a year .
- The middlemen
purchase girls from their families at a festival in the middle
of January. At this time of year we have the special
opportunity to free girls as a group: $7000 educates 100 girls.
Because of this, we add all funds given for Indentured Females
together to make the greatest possible impact.
- Since females are
brought into this program in a large group, we do not usually
assign a student to a particular donor. If you would like
to have a student assigned to you, please indicate on your
donation form.
- All donations
made towards this goal count! All donations over
$20.00 are eligible for a tax receipt.
- It is hard to imagine how far $7,000.00
CAD can be stretched in Nepal. Each female is carefully followed and monitored during
the school years.

ONE or 100?
How can oneresist 100
even
at $7,000!
Indentured Female Candidates
- The surname indicates the caste of the girl, which explains why the surnames are all the same. These indentured females belong to specific untouchable castes.
- Girls 15 and above have received no
formal education whatsoever. When these young females are bought
back, the Creating Possibilities Director who is responsible for that district in collaboration with the Social Case Worker decide on which educational program is best suited for this young woman. Vocational training is usually the best option for these young girls.
