About Mr. Bashu:

Mr. Bashu Dev Amatya played the major role in establishing this school. He has also spent many years volunteering for the community; nine years at a development club, one year as a free volunteer teacher, two years working experience as secretary of the Village Development Committee and finally ten years working experience at motor road as a free volunteer. Mr. Bashu has been working at this school since 2058 B.S as well as in other local developmental programs. Mr. Bashu is described as a very helpful person.

About the School:

Shree Chulidevi Lower Secondary School was established in 2047 BS. Ten teachers teach at this school; one is a permanent government teacher, one temporary post, two paid teachers from government depending on government resources, five teachers paid from local resources and Mr. Bashu's salary was made possible through IWEN's sponsorship program. The condition of the school is very poor as one of the school buildings was destroyed by monsoons in July 2005. Presently, students study under the trees where they have class. Some temporary class rooms have been made. Pictures follow to show the type of classroom students and teachers are using to give daily instruction.

 

 

 

About Mr. Bhim Bahadur Magar:

Mr. Bhim Bahadur Thapa Magar taught four years, 2055 to 2059 at this same school. There was no money for his salary and so he lost his teaching job around one and half year. He is married with three children. Mr. Bhim is also involved in local NGO programs in his area. His teaching position and the children he taught was made possible through IWEN.

About the School:

Shree Pancha Nanya Lower Secondary School was established in 2033 BS. There are nine teachers at this school; three permanent government teachers, four temporary government teachers and two teachers paid from local resources. The school building is presently in very poor condition. Even though there are two school buildings, the class rooms are very congested and overcrowded.Shree Pancha Kanys School is planning to include class 9 for the next school year. The school's upgrade will be made possible through the help and work of the local community. Presently, there is no secondary level school in this village, that is, a school that goes beyond class 10. Students who finish class eight must go to the down town school for class 9, which is a three and half hour walk from this village. The community is earnest in wanting to provide class 9 for its students.

About Mrs. Phul Maya Shakya :

Maya has been teaching since 2061 BS, which gives her one year of teaching experience. She is twenty years old and is married. Maya says she loves to teach children. Maya involves herself in social development programs at the village level.

About the School:

Kanya Devi Primary School is a government school. It was established in 2045 B.S. There are 164 students. Most of the students are from the Tamang community, which is a Nepali ethnic tribe. In this school there are five teachers; two teachers are temporary government teachers and two teachers are paid by the school and community and Mrs. Phul Maya Shakya. was supported by IWEN's teacher sponsorship program. The school building is very poor as is evident in the picture. Class rooms are very overcrowded with inadequate furniture and materials.

About the School:

Shree Rana Devi Primary School is a government school. It was established in 2049 BS. This school goes up to class 5. There are five teachers; two are temporary government teachers, one teacher is paid by the community, one teacher is paid for Kindergarten class by the District Education Office and Mr. Rajendra's salary was part of IWEN's teacher sponsorship program. There are 155 students in five classes. The school Building is very old and the classrooms are extremely overcrowded with little adequate furniture and/or school materials. As noted in the picture half of the roof has been blown away by a strong wind. The decision to not fix the roof allowed monies for part of a teacher's salary.

About Mr. Aryal :

He is 21 years old and has been teaching for one year at this school. He is involved in local social programs as he likes working with people.

About the School:

Shree Mandali Lower Purposed Secondary School was established in 2038/09/21 BS. The school goes up to class seven. There are eight teachers; four teachers are permanent government teachers, three teachers are paid by community and Mr. Sudhir's salary was made possible through IWEN sponsorship.There are 188 students. This school was upgraded to lower secondary in 2060. The school buildings are very poor. These are two old and substandard congested buildings as one building indicate below. The new school building which is under construction is a great relief for both teachers and students.

About Mrs. Bindu :

She has been teaching since September 2061. She is 23 years old and married with two daughters. Her husband Mr. Keshav works in Kathmandu and therefore absent for many weeks at a time. Her husband's absence makes her the one responsible for the upkeep of her children and home. Despite her home and school responsibilities she is also involved in social development programs when she is free.

About the School:

Shree Jalamukhi Primary School was established in 2046 BS. There are three teachers; one is a government permanent teacher, one other is a temporary government primary teacher and Mrs. Bindu's teaching position was made possible through IWEN. There are 109 students from the untouchable caste. Usually children from untouchable castes have difficulty accessing education. The building of this school is extremely old and the roof is thatched, which is in need of repair. Despite these conditions children of this low caste are receiving an education which will give them a few more options for their future survival.

About Mrs. Gagi Maya Gurung:

Maya is of the Gurung caste herself so she is able to teach the children the culture and traditions of the Gurung community. She is proud to be part of this new school project and has high hopes that the school will continue to expand so that other children from the same Gurung community can attend the school.

About the School:

Shree Kalika Primary school is a government school but is not yet registered in the Education District Office. Registration in the District Office is vital for this school's survival. The school building however was constructed by the local community . Presently, there are two classes 1 and 2 with 32 students. Most of the students are from the Gurung community in this school. The Gurung community indicates one of the many Nepali castes in the country.
