The key word in the Purpose of the Society “primarily” outside Canada describes where the great majority of IWEN's work occurs.
IWEN focuses solely on education for female children, youth and women by providing educational scholarships that sustains educational, vocational and life skills education for females who live in poverty.
The developing country that IWEN has chosen to work initially is in Nepal. In Nepal pennies go a long way. Education is the only way towards some independence and freedom from the vicious cycle of poverty. In rural Nepal, family education monies usually are spent to educate sons rather than daughters. Daughters marry and move to their husband's home. However these uneducated wives also have sons and daughters. IWEN firmly believes that in educating a women, a whole family is educated as well.
Some activities of IWEN focus on immigrant women in Canada , currently in the Okanagan Valley who are in need of vocational and life skills training.
IWEN is active in networking with other Canadian and overseas groups that are also involved in the education of women.
IWEN administers its Nepal recipient funds directly through the Nepalese Director, which is stationed in Nepal and/or through its Kelowna Directors for Canadian recipients
